It also considers the role of initial training for early years practitioners in developing the key skills required by professionals working under the current policy agenda of ‘Every Child Matters: Change for Children’ (Department for Education and Skills, 2004e).

Therefore this chapter intends to provide the reader with a greater understanding of professional collaboration by clarifying the language of working together; who is and should be involved in collaboration and the ingredients of effective communication. It will also consider how initial training, provided by courses in early childhood, have a role in developing the key skills required by professionals working under the agenda of ‘Every Child Matters: Change for Children’ (Department for Education and Skills, 2004e).
